Annotation

Simone Weil’s concept of equilibrium, ‘the correlation of contradictions’ is used to analyze the religious elements of Seamus Heaney’s poetry, something the author claims has been neglected in the scholarship on Heaney. To this end, the author examines the ‘sacramental nature’ of landscape and the importance of etymology in Heaney’s work in light of the political and religious elements of Irish culture and history.
