The article begins with a very brief, relatively general discussion of Weil’s concepts of attention, decreation, gravity and grace. It then turns to a discussion of mysticism and inclusion, focusing on Thomas Merton’s work on the topic of intentionality. The author goes on to make a few general comments about feminist theory and gender, briefly reflecting on the latter in Merton’s work. Turning to Weil, she suggests that although Weil said almost nothing about gender in her work, she presents an implicit critique of it in her treatment of power and decreation. |
