Biles looks at the role Simone Weil plays in Bataille’s thought, particularly her portrayal as the character Lazare in his 1935 novel, Blue of Noon. Biles traces out Bataille’s relationship to and understanding of Weil and her work, noting in particular his focus on her concepts of affliction, attention and especially her writing on decreation and interpretation of the Christian concepts of the incarnation and crucifixion. |
