Annotation

Lewis gives an interesting and informative overview of Weil’s contentious relationship with members of the ‘Free French movement’ in London in 1942, paying particular attention to her efforts to actively take part in the resistance such as her scheme to gather together a group of nurses who would care for soldiers on the front lines. Lewis also focuses on Weil’s views on what she felt should be the direction of the French government, views which Lewis argues were often at odds with those of others in the movement, especially Charles de Gaulle.
