Annotation |
Rice, in this essay, offers a lucid and intelligent discussion of the reasons for, complexities of, and difficulties arising from Weil's positioning of herself on the threshold of the various groups with which she was engaged. Rice seeks to dispute writing on Weil that portrays her pattern of engagement and departure as evidence of immaturity or flightiness, arguing instead it was deliberate and deeply meaningful. He is especially concerned to show how Weil's violent opposition to colonialist policies and practices fuelled much of her distrust of the organized power found in political parties, trade unions, the Catholic church and the nation state. |
