This chapter is part of a larger work in which Lyas presents the thought of the philosopher Peter Winch. Here he reflects on the role Winch’s relationship to Weil’s thought plays in his work. He begins the chapter with a brief discussion of the way Weil challenges Winch’s understanding of what philosophy is and does, going on to present and briefly discuss seven subjects around which these challenges arise: oppression, legality and justice, duty, punishment, ‘the hesitation before others’, grace and finally religion. The second part of the chapter is a brief overview of Winch’s work on Weil: The Just Balance. |
