Annotation

Drawing solely on the Simone Weil Reader (1977) and a small number of secondary sources, Feldman discusses the role of autonomy and the autonomous self in Weil’s work. Feldman argues despite what at times appears to be contradictions to this in Weil’s work, ultimately the notion of the autonomous self is of central importance in her writing. To support her argument, Feldman offers discussions of Weil’s concepts of equilibrium, affliction and decreation.
