Elster focuses on Weil's political philosophy. He is especially interested here as to whether Weil subscribed to 'purificational amoralism' which he describes as the belief that "moral behaviour can best be achieved by refraining from grounding actions in moral motivations" (p 13). To answer this question he looks at Weil's moral views, primarily in The Need for Roots as well as in her "Reflections on the Causes of Liberty and of Social Oppression" and "Forms of Indirect Love of God" |
