Annotation

This book constitutes a short introduction to Weil’s life and thought. The authors in the introductory chapter identify their reasons for selecting Weil in the ‘women of ideas’ series. They then place her in a social, political and religious context and give a brief overview of the scholarship on her. Finally, they move on to identify and discuss some of her major ideas including her views on science and knowledge, the individual and the collective, attention, freedom, force and oppression, evil and good, God, mysticism and decreation.
