Holm begins by noting although Weil was no feminist; her writing is often similar to modern feminist critiques of patriarchal power. Holm goes on to identify what aspects of Weil's life and work would be amenable to such critiques. She begins by noting Weil's stance of resistance to "received ideologies, doctrines, schools, churches, parties, movements..."(p. 106). Holm discusses Weil's pacifism in most but a few situations then goes on to consider whether Weil's thought would be compatible with some of today's feminist values such as 'responsiveness, attentiveness, empathy'. She discusses Weil's thought about 'primitive reactions' especially force. She then turns to briefly examine the notion of attention in Weil's work. She concludes with a consideration of Weil's thoughts on justice. |
