Annotation

As indicated by the title, this essay looks at the spirituality of work in Weil’s thought. Ross begins with a chronological overview of the development of spiritual themes in Weil’s writing on work from the period of 1929 to her death in 1943. He next compares this writing to her view of work found in her dissertation “Science and Perception in Descartes” written in 1919. He concludes with a discussion of Weil’s notion of decreation, arguing it resolves some of the conflicts and tensions arising from her earlier reflections on these matters.
