Pirrucello offers an overview of Weil’s hierarchical concept of science focusing on her understanding of the laws of thermodynamics, Weil’s critical response to them and most particularly on her notion of 'the missing ‘third principle’. Central to the discussion is Weil’s ideas about equilibrium, the ‘Good’ and the transformation of energy within humans. Pirruccello offers, in the concluding portion of the essay, a brief but fascinating discussion of the latter, energy transformation in humans, in relation to the Chinese notion of qi. |
