Simone Weil's Philosophy of Culture, Steiner’s essay provides a thoughtful, informed critique of what he sees as a 'hagiographic' approach to Weil and her work. Touching on the essays in Bell's volume, he raises disturbing questions about Weil's anti-Semitism, masochism and anorexia and the ways they are ignored or dismissed in the scholarship on her. |
