Sande's discussion of Weil comprises a sub-section of a much larger consideration of the relationship between history, historiography and context. Preceded by a brief presentation of Alexandre Kojeve's work, Sande provides a relatively brief but interesting analysis of Weil's critique of historical thought as found in her The Need for Roots. Sande then moves from Weil, to Hannah Arendt, comparing her historical model to Weil's. The chapter concludes with a discussion of Walter Benjamin as Sande argues, one can postulate a narrative flow from Kojeve, through Weil, Arendt and Benjamin. |
